Notifications not counting down

I have recently noticed that the number of notifications I have is not ticking down as quickly as it used to. The number indicated on the left tab, right after the word Notifications, used to tick down when I clicked on a notification immediately, but now it seems to lag.

This is not a huge problem, just an odd quirk, but it does seem to be new - within the last week or so.

I can confirm that this is happening to me too, on both desktop and mobile.

This is happening to me and at least one other person in my region

I recently started caching that part of the page, which is why the old notification count was being saved. This is now fixed.
