My understanding is that editing Exemplar recs (even the name when it changes) without permission is a no-go. Can we add something so that whenever a judge changes their name on Apps there is a prompt “would you like to ask permission of each Judge who wrote you an Exemplar Rec to change the name in the Rec to your new one?” Or maybe with better/different language. Then it emails the recognizing judges and asks them if they’re okay with name changes occurring in their recs. Possibly an added button for ‘anonymously ask’ (eg “a judge you previously recognized in Exemplar just had a name change, may we have your permission to update the name written in the recognition?”)
I think if we want permission granted this is the nicest way for the judge to ask the many people less laboriously.
You didn’t answer my question, and I asked it for a reason.
When someone changes their name in JudgeApps, their name changes retroactively everywhere their JudgeApps user is referenced, so if I changed my name today, for example, filtering exemplar by my new name will show you all my recognitions, even if they were given to me by my previous name.
The text, on the other hand, is saved as a set of ordered characters, which is displayed as is, so going through those and guessing where changes should be made, even for notification purposes, is very complicated. The exemplar tokens are also printed with the original text, and those can’t change easily either
Yes, the recipient ‘tag’ changes with the name change, but the text does not.
I did not think automatically changing the text in the Exemplar would be possible, I assumed that would need to be done ‘manually’ (which is a fair amount of labor), but the thing I was visualizing:
Name change happens-> option to email all received Exemplar authors asking permission to edit the name written in the recs-> permission acquired -> edits.
